How much newt fencing was installed in the uk in 2006?

I would like to know how much Newt fencing was installed in the uk in 2006, Can anyone help me??|||NEW or NEWT or are you as p123 as a newt?|||Presume newt fencing is to confine newts to specific areas But how much. I have no idea.|||You could try asking natural england (was english nature) as all newt projects would have to be okayed by them first. There are so many sites and so many suppliers of fencing that this would be a pretty hard Q to answer. I'd be interested to know the answer too as I work with lizards and use a similar type of fencing. The link below is from one company who supply the fencing and gives some details of projects and the amount of fencing used.|||Try this site:

Should I add fencing and target practice to my list?

At 19, I've mastered Kung-Fu, Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, Tae-Kwon Do, and Aikido. Should I add fencing, target practice (shooting), or paint-ball to my list? Any of the three?|||Aha! You are a seeker of discipline.

Fencing focuses attention on one opponent.

Inside opponent or outside opponent?

You already know the answer.|||to truly master any of those arts, it would take a lot longer than 19 years, I will guess that you took lessons at a school as opposed to an actual teacher...

I would go with Fencing.

A rancher has 800 feet of fencing to put around a rectangular field ?

A rancher has 800 feet of fencing to put around a rectangular field and then subdivide the field into 3 identical smaller rectangular plots by placing two fences parallel to one of the field's shorter sides. Find the dimensions that maximize the enclosed area.

|||Length of shorter side: x

Length of longer side: y

We know that:

2y+4x=800

A=y*x=(400-2x)*x=400x-2x^2

To find the maximum:

A'=400-4x=0

x=100

y=400-2x=200|||2x+4(x/2)=800

so the two long sides would equal 100 and the two shorter sides would equal 100. Then the two dividing fences in between to give three smaler rectangular plots would also equal 100. So you have four 100 sides and two 200 sides which equals 800

How much does fencing cost per foot/yard?

I know there are different types- I'm interested in the costs of both wire and wood post and rail fencing.|||Unfortunately, there is no way to answer the question, since there are so many variables. Even though you indicated the general types of fencing, there are still too many variables left.

For metal fencing, you have to consider the height of the fence, and the materials - you can use any number of different types/gauges of chain link. Chain fences can also be upgraded or downgraded depending on security needs and concerns. You can also get chain link with a vinyl coating, desirable for certain applications like around commercial swimming pools, for example.

Wood fences are available in a wide array of styles, wood types, and sizes. Even something as simple as split rail has many variables: cedar or pine? 2 rail, 3 rail, or even 4 rail configurations?

Lastly, most reputable fence material suppliers will give quantity discounts, so if you have a very large enclosure, you can expect to pay less per linear foot.|||why not visit a Lowe's and a home depot to find out.

rubberized cyclone fencing will outlast wooden fencing by years and doesn't need maintenance look wood will.

i have a neighbor who put up an 8 foot fence about 5 years ago, look good at that time, bu after 5 years the wood looks like heck and the fence is actually leaning, his dogs also chewed holes in the bottom of the wood, so it really looks bad. the vinyl is beautiful but costs an arm and a leg.|||Chain Link 4' tall will cost you about $2 per foot for everything you need.|||Depends on the type of fence, what type are you wanting?

I might take up a fencing class an i would like to know Is fencing painful?

So are the blades in fencing sharp and pointy? do they hurt to get stabbed by? do they cut?|||Fencing is a very safe sport. None of the weapons are sharp, all of them are blunt. And, when you fence, you MUST wear the proper attire or your instructor will not let you near a sword.

There is a jacket, with is either made out of a very thick nylon or a kevlar material. That's the stuff they make bullet-proof vests out of. Then, there is the plastron, which is a half jacket that goes under the first jacket to protect your blade arm further. You must wear knickers (pants that go to the knee) or full pants. There is a glove that goes over your sleeve so that the blade of your opponent's weapon cannot reach your arm and there is the mask (the most important piece).

-Men are advised to wear a cup (yes, that's target area in foil), and women are required to wear chest protectors-

The worst injury that I have ever received during my fencing experience is a metal splinter because I grabbed my weapon out of its bag too quickly.

The worst injury I have ever witnessed is a twisted ankle...

The worst you will feel is MAYBE a bit of a sting, and that is only if the people hit hard...and if you are in a beginning class, they will be more worried about getting hit than hitting you.

I wish you the best of luck. Fencing is a blast! I hope you take the class. Maybe we'll end up competing in a tournament together one day...|||You should totally take up fencing. No the blades are not pointy. There is a rubber tip on the end of a foil, which is the weapon you will probably start out on, and you wear a mask that protects your face and a glove for your hand and a padded jacket so it doesn't hurt at all. Legs are off target (touches there don't count) so they seldom if ever get hit.|||If you're wearing the right equipment, nothing should happen. Also, fencing swords aren't particualrly desined to cut so you sould be fine.

Anyone tell me the law regarding partition fencing?

Is there any way fencing should be facing, meaning, do the slats have to be facing towards neighbouring garden? In other words can one put the "nice side" facing towards the owner of the fence?, some had said that the law says that the posts had to not face towards the person errecting the fence. Is this a wind up or genuine info, know this is where I!ll get the right answer. This is to save having to reverse sides if errected incorrectly. Thanx for help, please.|||If you have an HOA odds are the "nice" side of the fence has to face out and the posts be inside the fence along with the "ugly" side. Why would you want to face the "ugly" side out? Erect the fence with the attractive side out. If you dont odds are people will assume you had no idea what you were doing when you put it up. We all dont like our neighbors but if you put the ugly side out it makes your own property unattractive|||Almost everywhere, the law is nice side to the neighbor

I would really like to get into rapier sword fighting. What type of fencing would be ideal?

I already have a rapier and now I would like to know what particular type of fencing would be the most helpful.|||The Historical European Martial Arts Alliance has a list of schools and study groups. Not all of these include rapier, and not all groups are listed. If you said roughly where you are (nearest city of any size), I might be able to find a group near you.

The other option is the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval/renaissance recreation group with chapters in many parts of North America, Europe, and Australia. Can and adult learn the sport of Fencing?

I am 27 and I have decided I want to take Fencing lessons. How difficult is it for an adult to learn the sport? And do a lot of people attempt to learn as adults?|||One of the best things about the sport of Fencing is that anyone can do it.

That is why I love it!

They are always full.

How to sign up for Malaysia Open Fencing 2008?

If you have 276 feet of fencing and want to enclose a rectangular area up against a long, straight wall, what?

If you have 276 feet of fencing and want to enclose a rectangular area up against a long, straight wall, what is the largest area you can enclose? Give your answer correct to the nearest square foot.|||SORRY I MISSED THE WALL ON ONE OF THE SIDES, THESE PEOPLE ARE CORRECT. I AM RIGHT IF THERE WAS NO WALL BUT A COMPLETE RECTANGULAR FENCING.

-------------------------------------- - - - -

perimeter = 276 feet = 2(l + b)

area = lb

2(l+b)=276

l+b=138

l=138-b

area = lb

a = (138-b)b

a = 138b - b虏

a' = 138 - 2b

a'' = -2

as a''%26lt;0 we have a maxima at a'=0

138-2b=0

2b=138

b=69

at b=69

l=138-b=138-69=69 feet

for b=69 feet and l=69 feet we have maximum value of area

maximum area = 69 x 69 = 4761 feet虏|||8464 sq. ft.

The biggest possible area for a rectangle is when it's a square. Take the 276 ft. of fencing and divide by 3. This equals 92 ft. So, each side of the wall is 92 ft. 92 ft. times 92 ft. equals 8464 sq. ft.|||the largest area is that approaching a square, so if each side were x themn

3x=276

x=92

92^2=8464 square feet|||A Square maximizes the are so a 92 foot square are yields 8464sq ft. You might try to vary off the square but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

How do you wash a fencing glove?

I need to wash mine, but it has suede and microfiber. I know you can't wash leather gloves easily.Are there any precautions for suede or for fencing gloves in general? It's blue, yellow, white and gray, and is made by Athos. Thanks!|||According to Athos' website, they are currently selling just three gloves and from your description, it sounds like you're using the three-weapon glove (link below), which they say is washable. There are basically two ways to wash your glove: either in a sink or in a washing machine.

If you do it by hand, fill the sink with warm water, add your glove, and get it wet all the way through. Add a bit of gentle detergent (such as Woolite) and work it into the glove. You can even put the glove on and act as though you're washing your hands, which helps work the soap through from both sides. Once you're satisfied the glove's clean, drain the sink and rinse the glove under warm water -- inside and out! -- until there are no traces of soap left. Roll it in a towel and squeeze the towel to get as much water out of the glove as you can. (Don't twist and wring the glove.) Repeat this a time or two if necessary. Then lay the glove flat to dry.

If you toss it in the washing machine, I usually recommend that any glove with color be washed with similar colors just in case the dye bleeds. Be careful about what other items are in the wash with the glove and make sure the glove's velcro is fully fastened so it doesn't snag on anything else. (Note: Using an entire wash cycle on just one glove is silly!!) Wash with warm water, gentle or regular cycle, then roll in a towel and lay out as above to dry.

I toss my glove in with the rest of my kit but it also doesn't have any strong colors on it so bleeding isn't an issue.

Of course, to be completely certain, you can always contact Athos directly!|||I usually just wash them with the laundry in cold water, with no bleach.

Ive got a lot that is 21,000 sq ft. So 1/2 an acre and I want to fence it all. I have 2 small dogs and need help with backyard fencing?

I have half regular wooden fense and a metal gate going to the front. The dogs can get thru the metal gate. What kind of fencing options are available for this issue?|||Chicken wire|||The neighbor across the street had the same problem.

The obvious solution is to install a zip line (a tie out that lets the dog have full freedom of the back yard but NOT get over or under a fence) and attach them to it, or do separate tie outs. OR get an outdoor kennel run and install it. They have the sections at any major hardware store - Lowes, Menards, Ace, they all carry those.

DO you know any fencing tricks/techniques that can help me attack someone by surprise?

Like what can I do so that they completely leave a line open so I can lunge, or what can I do to get them off-guard so I can get them?

I need any tricks/techniques to be better at fencing!|||Use the beat to lightly tap the opponent's blade feeling for them to resist. If they overcomitt to resisting your beat to get them offline then the next time feint a beat to the blade, circle under their blade and lunge. This is easier to do if you learn how to use tight circular movements as a standard part of your beating the blade.

You can also use the rising beat with force off one of their feints to quickly riposte.

The key to what you want to do is sensitivity, to be able to feel how much pressure they have comitted against your blade and to be able to manipulate that pressure. You need to be able to read their body language and footwork correctly for intent.

It's challenging since they are also attempting to do the same. It's about practice over time and being able to learn and recognize general cues of intent.

Surprise attacks are about doing something the other person has never seen before. They are much easier to successfully do against novices. The better strategy is to focus on technique, timing, and rhythm. If you can recognize your opponent's rhythm and manipulate it at will then you will have a huge advantage.|||As you have asked for TRICKS rather than training, here are a list of the top of my head from those popular to throw of people at the club, just remember they tend not to work so well in competition or against those who have seen them a million times before. Other than the last which is a rarely used advanced move favoured by a past world champion.

Dropping the rear hand for no reason sharply as if you are about to lungs, then lunging as they move to engage the false blow. Play with this it's a mainstay and is usefull for a long time.

Standing up at your full hight and walking firmly and with speed towards the opponent with sword arm fully extended towards them. This doesn't tend to work more than a few times but with practice can also have a good lifespan when you add your normal techniques.

Lunging to the point of almost falling face first on the ground, placing the off hand to the ground in order to continue moving the extended arm and push yourself up and under the oponents guard for the point.|||ISDS has a great answer.

One that I did when I was fencing in high school was lower my foil and turn slightly to open a target. You're creating a 6 inch square where you're undefended to invite them in. As they commit, turn back away (narrow yourself) and thrust in at their chest. They'll glide past, and you'll make contact.

Fencing's not easy by any stretch, but learning to control where your opponent will attack will make you a far better fencer.|||read george silvers works on the english school of fencing its amazing and ever since reading i have dumped most of what i have learned in epee/foil for this truer style of both cut and thrust sword fighting that doesnt even use the lunge

Is there a better material than maraging steel to construct fencing blades?

I'm working on an assignment whose purpose is ta find a better metal to construct blades for sword's used in Fencing.The type of sword i choose is foiled!Thanks in advance :)|||No. In fact, maraging steel is major overkill for this application. Plus it is a controlled military material, so you would have a lot of grief from ITAR if you actually tried to use it. For this application you need high strength and high modulus. If you look in a book of steel alloys then you could find the second best material, but you already know the best.

No gardener would put their stuff up against a barn... nothing would grow in shade like that.

$750 / 3 = $250 each of the 3 sides

$250 = 90.91

Therefore you should make each of the three sides 90 feet, for a cost of $742.50.

Unless you want to go down to the mm.

But now it's not rectangular, it's a square.

You also never said how wide the barn was.... there is a possibility that you could make the fence too wide and there would be a gap of which it is impossible to know about with this question.|||Math homework, definitely math homework.

The largest area (for a given length of fence, i.e. a max cost of fence) will be surrounded by a fence that's twice as long (along the barn side), as it is deep.

Depending upon what grade you are in will determine how you decide this. If you have differential calculus, you should know min-max applications. Otherwise, you'll have to make a table and look for the trend toward the largest area value. My kids had this in fifth grade, it's a well-known problem.

How bad is the asymmetry caused by fencing?

How bad is the asymmetry caused by fencing?|||Most fencers don't have any noticeable asymmetry. Your particular build and practice/training schedule are key factors, of course, but if you're a casual fencer and practice one to three times a week, I doubt you'll notice anything. If you find yourself involved in heavy fencing training on the other hand (several hours a day, several days each week), hopefully you're being guided by someone who is also having you spend an appropriate amount of time working on the opposite sides as well in order to prevent any unevenness.

Even if you fence just once or twice a week, it's easy to spend a little extra time working the opposite arm and leg. Do a little basic foot- and hand-work left-handed (if you're a righty, vice versa otherwise), for example. Your mask makes a handy weight, by the way!

Just for an example, I'm a coach and fence from two to six hours a day, six days a week. But the only person who ever notes a difference between one side and the other is my massage therapist and she only notices it by touch.

A rancher has 232 feet of fencing to enclose two adjacent rectangular corrals?

A rancher has 232 feet of fencing to enclose two adjacent rectangular corrals. What dimensions will produce the largest total area?

(Enter length and width separated by commas.)

What is the maximum total area?|||I'm assuming that the corrals are about the same size or that they have 1 side in common (say one of the widths).

Let the width = w

Let the lengths = L

Perimeter = 232 = 3w + 4L

Area = 2L*w

2[(232 -- 3w)/4] * w = Area

[116 - 3/2w]*w = Area

116w - 3/2 w^2 = Area

This can be done by completing the square or differentiating. I'm going to differentiate.

3w - 116 = 0

3w = 116

w = 116/3 = 38.666

You can find L from the perimeter formula. Note w might be bigger than L, but it should be less than 2L

Does anyone know what the laws in Georgia (Fulton County) are regarding Dogs and proper fencing?

We live in the city and out patio adjoins the sideyard of a neighboring home. They have two full sized Great Danes that are only seperated from us by a 4 ft chainlink fence (they are taller). Are there any requirements by law for fencing large dogs? We are currently unable to use our patio b/c of this.|||as long as the dog is staying on its property, and not barking constantly (noise ordinance) then you really unable to bring the law into it. why cant you use your patio? if they are bugging you because they want attention, then why don't you put up a privacy fence (maybe ask the neighbor to go in on half of the fence that separates your yards), or put up a lattice between your patio and their yard, so you can block the dogs.|||If the dogs are properly contained on the property, then no law is being broken. Technically, there doesn't even need to be a fence if the dog doesn't leave the yard.

Why can't you use your patio?? Great Danes are wonderful dogs. Make friends with them and they will be as friendly as can be.|||From the Fulton County Animal Control website:

How does fencing affect your acting skills?

My acting teacher recently told me that taking fencing sessions would help me with movement in acting. Does anyone know the benefits of fencing, especially related to acting? I would like to know more about this sport and the benefits before I waste money on the classes.|||Fencing is VERY good for acting.

There are physical benefits, such as stamina, balance co-ordination, core strength and even breathing technique.

It will also greatly help your focus, concentration amd your spatial awareness

In terms of practical uses Fencing will sharpen your mind, and will improve your ability to improvise and think up solutions to problems on the fly. But perhaps most importantly it will teach you much about TACTICS, you will learn how to use a virety of subtle tactics to beat your opponent. In the same way that your characters must use differing tactics to achieve their objective|||I don't know how it may help your acting skills, but it will definately help your balance, coordination, your cardiovascular system and it's a lot of fun. I say go for it you'll love it.|||It teaches focus, balance, and hand eye coordination....also a little bit of trust in your instructor....so all these things will help your presence on stage, your circles of concentration, and your ability to execute your blocking confidently and with ease so it doesn't seem like planned movement....

it is also a skill that is great to have on your resume if you ever do classical plays (shakespeare, some Greek/Latin plays have swordplay, so it is a desirable skill if you're auditioning for certain roles)|||Anything that improves your strength and (especially) BALANCE -- such as dance, fencing, etc. -- will absolutely make you better able to use your body to good effect in performance.

In the sport of fencing, why is there a cable attached to the back of each opponent?

I do not understand fencing, just curious specifically about the cable pulley system that pulls the competitor back.|||It is so that the scoring can be done electronically.

There is a cord that plugs into the fencer's weapon, that goes under their jacket and out the bottom. The cord then connects to an outer jacket (for foil and sabre, not epee) and to a plug at the end of the strip. This way, if the fencer hits their opponent on target area (the part covered by the outer jacket) a colored light will go off, and if the fencer hits off target a white light will go off.

For epee the whole body is target, so the tip of the weapon has a depression tip, if it hits the opponent at a certain amount of pressure, the light will go off.|||Just a comment to your follow up - the cable doesn't yank the fencer back. The cable is part of the "reel" that is spring loaded. The reel just keeps the cable out of the way so that the fencer doesn't trip over it.

What is the best fencing sword for me?

I'm just starting fencing, and of course I'm going to start with a foil, but what would be the best for me when I'm done?

I'm a 14 year old boy, 5'8, and 115 pounds, and I'm pretty skinny. Can you also explane why this would be good for me? Thank you!|||First of all, it ultimately depends on your preference. Physical stature does not make any significant difference, as a good coach will train you depending the weapon and on your physique.

However, there are distinct differences in each weapon that may make you more suited towards one or the other.

Starting with sabre, as that is my primary weapon:

Sabre is the fastest paced of the three weapons, and the only one to allow scoring with the edge of the weapon rather than just the point. While sabre fencing requires strategy and forethought just like the other two, the speed of the exchanges means that such planning is more short-term and must happen a great deal faster. Sabre is an exercise in speed, agility, and power. As a sabre fencer myself, I am biased towards it, however, each weapon has its merits.

Foil, the common start weapon:

You state that you will be following the classical method of beginning with foil. Foil is one of the two point-weapons, and has a style different from epee and sabre. Foil requires point control, unlike sabre, and is a good choice for individuals who are good at "medium-term" strategy. It provides an excellent base of the basics of fencing, and is also the most popular weapon, meaning that the pool of available fencers and coaches is much greater. Because the target is so confined, (the smallest area of the three weapons) foil is an exercise in control and accuracy.

Epee, where you can score off your opponent's toe! (that has always amused me, I must admit!):

The target in epee is in essence the whole body, thus there is A LOT more space to defend than foil or sabre. I personally believe it to be the weapon requiring the most patience and strategy over the long term. Much of epee fencing is knowing ones opponent and outsmarting them to an extent not seen in the other weapons (knowing ones opponent is important regardless of what weapon you fence). However, even if epee isn't as fast paced as sabre, it is no less rewarding.

Like I said, the choice is ultimately up to you. Your physique in no way determines which weapons you can and can not fence. I personally am very short (5ft), and very lightweight. When compared to my fellow sabre fencers, I look positively tiny. Thus, my coach focused on speed and agility. After all, if you aren't there, you can't be hit!

Pick the weapon that looks the most interesting to you. Watch people fencing, even if only on youtube, and think about how YOU would do there.

Good luck, and welcome to the fencing community ( if you stick around, you'll find its a small but awesome group of people!)

AR

www.usfencing.org is the site for the USFA, the United States Fencing Association. They have a ton of info, and some pretty awesome videos too.|||Adding on to the previous answer, your weapon really depends on your style.

I am a very aggressive fencer (tend to go for immediate attacks, don't like the long process of playing with the opponent's blade. Therefore, I am a saberist, as I like the quick paced bout time.

If you're good with right of way, foil is probably your best bet, as it uses the most of any weapon (it's also the least bruising, if you care). Foil has the most blade work of all the weapons, with epee close behind.

Epee is the closest to "real" sword fighting you can come to in fencing; no right of way, each touch is a point, etc. It's also the heaviest weapon, so if you lack arm strength, you may have to work out for it if you're not already adjusted.

Something else to take into consideration is what weapon your club specializes in. For instance, my club's focus is foil, and it is therefore harder for me to learn more, as we don't have a coach who's primary weapon is saber. This is mostly just if you are looking to compete. Don't let it hold you back from a weapon you think you will enjoy above the others.

Another good thing to do is to talk to your coach for recommendations. Your coach sees your fencing more than anyone else, and knows what style tends to match best with each weapon. This does not mean you have to take what your coach suggests as law; it is just something else to think of.

I am also 5'8" and 115 pounds, and I've fenced all weapons and found no strong advantages or disadvantages due to size.

Good luck!

How much does Sabre fencing equipment cost?

I'm gonna start fencing and I want to know how much it csts. not the lessons but the material.|||For a basic kit to start fencing sabre, you need a mask, jacket, gauntlet, and a practice sabre. If you're a woman, you need a chest protector. An underarm protector or "plastron" is highly recommended, and required at all USFA sanctioned competitions. Prices for the basic equipment start at about $150 and go up from there. Expect to pay as much as ten times as much for FIE rated equipment, suitable for international competition.

Many clubs will provide some or all equipment or sell new or used equipment for a reasonable amount. You might also qualify for club discounts at fencing equipment retailers. Check with your coach.

You'll need either fencing knickers ($40-$50) and knee socks or long athletic pants. Court shoes, especially indoor soccer shoes, work well.

When you graduate from practice fencing to bouting with electronic scoring equipment, you'll need additional equipment. An electric mask, mask cords (2), body cords (2), cuff, lame and electric weapons (2) will run between $250 and $300.|||Try here

Is the oak from an old dining room table when cut to size suitable for outdoor fencing?

New oak boards are so expensive I thought I might cut and plane the oak from two old tables to use as fencing boards. The question is "Will they stand up to the weather without twisting?".|||Just an idea.... you might be further ahead to sell the tables and use that money to buy treated lumber that would last longer.|||It's a bit hard to say. If the tables have been indoors, and stabilized to a dry environment, it's possible that the wood could warp when exposed to weather, especially after being cut down to smaller sizes. It has to do with how well they're sealed and painted after cutting them down. I have to add that oak is not all that great as an "outdoor" wood, compared to cedar, teak or redwood. I understand about the cost, and if it's free, it's worth it, but it will take more maintenance to make oak last compared to others.|||Well with my tongue firmly in my cheek I have seen some gardens in Coxhoe fenced off with a row of old doors, and some even have the knobs still on!!|||Sure if they can be cut to size. Be sure to give them a good paint job with outside paint.

Where are the fencing training areas in the Philippines?

Are there any government run or public training areas for fencers in the Philippines aside from the Philsports Complex (ULTRA) fencing hall? If none, I suppose private training areas will do. This is for a research paper.|||Hello Rodolfo !

Forgive me but your question is sort of hard to sort out. Were you looking for European Fencing or Japanese Fenseing...etc as there are many variants of styles.

While waiting for others to post a more specific and accurate contact information in regards your search.

In the meantime, If you're serious enough I suggest the following step for you to take.

First thing you have to do is check your local yellow pages or phone book, look for the all the available schools your area has to offer.

If you're not in the area yet, call someone you know in the local area to scan, mail or list the martial arts section on the yellow page and have them sent to you.

The reason I always suggest to look in the phone book first is due to the fact you're pretty much searching for a school that are in your local area. You may even find one a few blocks down from you. Using the phone book as your first step will make your search faster and easier because all the information such address and phone number are available for you right there.

Secondly, if you are not having any success with this type search, After all the vigorous research on styles and decided on a particular style of martial arts. Try contacting a legitimate organization of that particular style on the internet and ask if they can refer schools or certified instructors available in your local area.

Please note that there are good number of good instructors that do not advertise or teach for commercial purpose thus you won't see them advertise anywhere. They are mostly located in private gyms or community centers. Just them a call and even if they don't have a program ask to see who they can refer you to.

Try all styles or any other styles that you have already decided upon. Call the schools in your area to see if they are offering free lessons or find out if they have any and how much is introductory classes for a month.

Taking ONE trial classes just does not cut it because at that moment you're excited and often times this excitement often leads you to making a wrong decision such signing a long term contract ( Gasp ! Never ever sign a contract !) or other bad decisions.

One last thing, I don't mean to sound abrasive, but If the above suggestion is too much work for you, then the probability of you being serious in joining a martial arts school is less than zero. I am sorry to say this but, I am sincere in helping you in your quest, but you have to do your part.

Hope this helps and good luck with your search.

I am getting a Dachshund and require temporary fencing! Does anyone know any cheap solutions?

My girlfriend and I are in the process of getting a Miniature Dachshund, the Real Estate have allowed us to get one providing we can set up suitable fencing, we live in a townhouse and would need to fence approximately 3 metres of lawn and 2 metres of tile on the patio. Any solutions would be really helpful. Its a small dog so we can't really afford to have big gaps in the fencing, and we aren't looking to spend hundreds of dollars.|||Maybe vinyl lattice would work. I guess this is going to be a pretty small dog and probably not a jumper, so you could even cut it in half lengthwise to get 2' high sections which ought to be enough to confine him. That can be done with a hand saw. You could tie the panels together with cable ties or strong string, fasten them to the ground with good tent pegs or landscape pegs.

However, if it was me, I'd be inclined to get the sort of wire pet pen stuff, it's called X-pen, that another poster mentioned, unless appearance is a serious consideration for your neighbours or management. It comes in different heights. The x-pen is more expensive, isn't terribly attractive, and will eventually rust if left outdoors but it's very sturdy, folds for storage, can be set up in different configurations, cannot be chewed and is very difficult to break, and if the sections are clipped together properly, your dog will not get through them. Mine tried once, got her paw stuck between two panels, and after she was rescued from that, she never tried to get out again. The X-pen might come in useful if you ever need to confine the dog while visiting or travelling too, or inside at home. It would give him more room than a crate but still keep him out of the way.

The lattice, if you set it up for where you live now, will be probably basically useless elsewhere.|||Pets mart has a folding fence about 24 inchs high and when layed out straight measures about 16 feet.This fence comes in pieces about 24 inchs long and you hook then together,you can make it into a circle or any other o get any sizeshape you want.They are not expensive less then a $100.00 abd you can buy two and hook them together to get any size enclosure you need.Anotyer plus is you can take it down to store or to take to the park.I have used mine to keep a small child from leaving the family room and to keep my dog off the carpet until she learned to go outside.What I like most is because it hooks together you only need to use the sections that you need.|||You can just go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy some wire mesh. What are the differences between the fencing swords epee, foil, and sabre?

Im doing a research paper on fencing and cant quite find what the main differences between the epee, foil, and sabre swords are.|||A sabre has a broad, flat blade. You score by hitting your opponent with the flat part of the blade.

Foil and epee are more similar to each other than they are to the sabre, both have long rectangular blades. You score by hitting your opponent with the tip of the blade. You have to hit harder with the epee to score.|||The main differences between the three Olympic weapons are:

1) what target area you can hit,

2) types of attacks allowed,

3) the weight of the weapon,

4) whether or not right of way rules apply, and

5) whether or not your feet are allowed to cross over while attacking.

EPEE:

1) Target area is entire body, Nothing is off-target.

2) Attack with the point only. You do NOT have to hit harder in epee than you do in any of the other weapons (no matter what your average epeeist may think.)

3) Epee is the heaviest and most rigid of the three, with a large bell guard designed to cover the epeeist's hand.

4) No right of way rules -- whoever hits first gets the point.

5) Your feet are allowed to cross over while attacking.

FOIL:

1) Target area is entire torso and back. Head, arms, legs are off-target.

2) Attack with the point only.

3) Foil is the lightest weapon, with a small round bell guard.

4) Right of way rules apply -- you take right of way by extending your arm fully, and the defender must beat or parry your blade to take it back.

5) Your feet are allowed to cross over while attacking.

SABRE:

1) Target area is everything above the waist. Below the waist is off-target.

2) Both attacks with the point and cut attacks with the edge of the blade are allowed.

3) Sabre is lighter than epee, with a bell guard that wraps around the fencer's hand.

4) Right of way rules apply -- you take right of way by extending your arm fully and advancing, and the defender must beat or parry your blade to take it back.

5) Your feet cannot cross over while attacking -- running fleche attacks are no longer allowed in this sport.

Plus sabre fencers are generally far better looking than the average bear. (Yes, I fence sabre.)

Is it legal to carry my fencing foil in public?

I'm not worrying about the rest of my equipment (just some practice amongst friends, so I'll use club equipment to save me lugging mine around) and I don't want to carry the entire bag just for the foil, but I don't want to get in trouble for carrying a sword around openly. What's the legality (in Britain) of carrying around a fencing foil openly in public?

Thanks|||I'm not from Britain, but this is the best I can give. I studied firearms and the use of weaponry for murder. Laws on carrying those not on a national level, but on a local level. It would be best to ask your local laws-city wide, county, and so on. The carrying of weapons and similar objects change on a county, town, and city level even here in the Philippines. For example, in our capital Manila, it is illegal to carry a sharp object even resembling a knife "longer than the width of for of your own fingers". However, in the provinces, no such law exists.

I suggest you go to a local police station or even ask your fencing buddies. Actually, I fence too (Saber). Good luck.|||Oh, in Britain.

Faye has 20 ft of fencing to make a rectangular pen for her dog.What is the largest area that she can fence in?

faye has 20feet of fencing to make a rectangular pen for her dog. What is the the largest area that she can fence in?|||A square is a special rectangle in which all the sides are congruent, with that said the largest area would be a 5x5 square totaling 25 square foot area, other wise it goes to 6x4 then 7x3, 8x2 and lastly 9x1 and none of those have an area larger than 25 square feet

How do you install vinyl fencing at angles other than 90 degrees?

I need to put a panel up at an angle greater than 90 degrees. As far as I know, there are no such kits available. I bought the fencing from Home Depot and they tried to give me some joist hangers and told me to bend them?? Any suggestions welcome.|||There are several ways you can do this...besides bending some joist hangers, hehehe... Not knowing your comfort level with power tools, or what kind you have access to, here are 3 fairly easy methods of creating just about any angle you need for fencing.

First trick that comes to mind, is to shave the corner post to the angle you need. (Tablesaw, circular saw, or reciprocating saw)

Second trick is to 'build' a corner post to the angle you need...this is particularly handy, if you have a very large angle. (Tablesaw, and miter saw) You would want to use treated lumber, prime it with a good oild base primer (Kilz would work well), and then paint it to match... you would also want to 'cap' your post.

Third trick is to cut the vinyl rails at the angle you need (and the steel support, if any), and apply trim to help cover any gaps. This one will work, if you do not have to go too much farther than 90 degrees. (Recriprocating saw, and miter saw)

Good Luck!|||sorry

You have 200 feet of fencing left over from a previous project and wish to construct a rectangular enclosure?

with it. You want to enclose a total are of 1730 square feet with the fencing. Find the desired length and width of your new enclosure.

Help please!|||Let a = one side of the enclosure

Let b = other side.

ab = 1730

a = 1730/b

2a + 2b = 200

2(1730/b) + 2b = 200

2(1730) + 2b^2 = 200b

b^2 - 100b + 1730 = 0

b = 50 +- sqrt(770)

For Fencers only: Why do you do fencing? What are some life lessons you have learned?

Im trying to convice my parents into letting me do fencing why do you do fencing? What are some life lessons you have learned? Anything eles that might help?|||Fencing is a great sport.

I started three years ago because I needed some sort of exercise.

I was very surprised to find out how great of a work-out fencing really is!

I am not at all athletic, but thanks to fencing I am in pretty good shape, and am getting better everyday. I went down three pant sizes!

Besides being a great work-out, fencing is a great sport because anyone can do it!

We are like a big family at my fencing club, we celebrate birthdays and holidays together!

One of the best lessons that fencing has to offer is respect. Everyone gets respect in fencing. The teachers are called coach, and you are sir or ma'am...|||Fencing is a sport that is not just a good workout, but also a mental sport. It enhances reactions, both physically and mentally. Like any sport, it is a great way to stay active and hang out with people of similar interests. Many people think fencing is dangerous, but they require you to wear protective gear. So, tell your mom that. Also, it is better than being bored and accidentally (or purposefully) getting into trouble...tell your mom that, too.|||You learn to plan multiple moves out in advance, you work out muscles that very few other sports use, while also working on most of the major muscles..

Fencers are a close knit family, you gain friendships that last years, once you practice, you can go to tournaments all over the country or world (depending on your skill level)

Best fencing option for large yard for shih tzu?

I want to put in a doggy door and allow my pet access to outdoors at times. trying to decide between fencing a large yard which would be very costly, or a small area around a patio, picket fence or privacy or chain link. neighbors on two sides of yard only. red brick house.|||The best bet for the dog is a wooden privacy fence which provides a lot of room to run and no visual distractions that might mar the fun experience of having the whole back yard to romp in. (Also much less likely to get tangled in trying to dig underneath.)|||Check on line for small kennel run, like a 10X20 or larger, they will be chain link type fencing, if you find one it is a good idea to bury chicken wire several inches under the ground and attach it to the bottom of the fence so your treasured pooch can't dig out.

I have had a quote to have fencing put in am i being ripped off?

I have had a quote for feather edged fencing to be put in my garden. The fencing required is 14 square metres. The landscaper wants to charge me 拢650 to supply and fit. I thought it would be about 拢400. Seems steep to me. Just wanted to know what others think before I get it done and should I be looking to pay prices like this

Also He gave a quote to have decking done for 拢1995 for a area 9x5 square metres. He said to lay a cheap slab patio would cost more than 拢2000. Sounds about right to me. The builder is not in it for love, you'll pay a mechanic 拢50 per hour and not blink. But you'll get what you pay for. As long as you can see previously satisfied customers i can't see a problem.

If its too expensive, try DIY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!|||I think it would be more useful to us to know the length and height of the fence and is it slotted concrete posts and panels of feather edge. As we dont know how many posts are involved|||i always get at least 3 quotes and ask friends/family for recommendations.

you should ask for a price breakdown to show matierial and labour charge then you can check the price yourself and know if there being honest and remember most companies will give discount to other businesses so they should be able to get it cheaper than you.|||go for three quotes and pick the middle one i think 400 is more than enough|||far too expensive...go to the local timber yard..then to the shopping centre where you will find plenty of hoodies/drop outs/low lifes/divs and dorks....take a couple home with you and beat severely with a stick untill work is done.....the cost will be 40 B%26amp;H and 2 cans of Red Bull!!!

How can I prepare my self for a new fencing season ?

I want to be in my best shape (or close to that) when starting this new fencing season. Does any one have fitness ex. that I can do to improve my endurance ? I already run and have a program but it's not enough. Thanks!|||Stairs and hills are what do the most good for me for fencing. It's a shorter but intense workout that doesn't take too much time away from fencing-related training, but still helps with the strength and endurance. You can get so much done in half an hour. Running down the stairs makes your feet move faster--it's the best exercise other than fencing for fencing in my opinion, running up stairs makes you stronger and running down makes you faster.

If you have a mirror and think you can practice lunges without a coach (and without picking up bad habits), getting quicker is always good practice. The thing I like to concentrate on most before a season is quick tight parries and working on good ways to combine one parry with another (I fence foil). It is also good to work on footwork, but I find it hard to do any good work on footwork without a training partner or coach.|||um, I suppose I would have to say just repetition of all the footwork and tactics, and conditioning...

When you run, you could add other exercises: like "high knees" or "karaoke" or "butt kicks"

Oh! Lunging with a medicine ball might help...?

What type of fencing do you feel works best?

What do you think is the safest and best horse fencing?|||The safest I find is post and rail, because it has been built specifically for horses - is strong and if kept well maintained, horses will find it very difficult to escape or injure themselves on it. It also is quite an attractive fencing. Especially with hedging around it.

Stone walls are pretty good aswell, and the plus side is they can act as shelters - the trouble is they are pretty expensive to build just for a field.

Electric fencing on it's own is no a safe form of fencing, the battery can go out when you're not there - and horse's ears are sensitive enough to know when it isn't switched on: cue an escape. Or if anyone's horses are like mine, they'll just barge it or jump over it - if the electric fencing was kept on it's own, that would spell horses on the road.|||i like the poly wire or the thick plasticy poly wire not sure the correct name but it's amazing it stretches and holds up too 1000lbs before breaking so its very horse safe, and you can get it in electric

my fence is electric on top and on the middle

but all the wires are white and look the same so the horses can't tell which one is electric and which one is normal so they just stay away from the fence as best as possible!!

one time my pony did get caught in the fence (before we had the electric wire up) and his foot got caught in the wire i un-tangles him with no scratches

my neighbors have barbed wire and my horse got caught up in it and had scars all over his legs

anyways it's the nicest for the price

i would never do iron or metal moles because horses can get legs caught and break legs and ankles and just becomes a big mess

this poly wire has a lot of give and bend to is a foot goes through the fence the foot can come right back in with ease|||well i really like wooden fences but they can be hard to keep up, i also like electric if you get the thicker white kind. My horse used to run through electric fences but then once there was the elctric fence and wooden he doesn't anymore. even if yu have a wooden fence you should have electric tape with it just because if they really wanted to they could just run through the wood.

hope i helped!|||I don't have my own farm, but when I do, I'm getting equisafe fencing. Its farily new, but it looks amazing. Its pretty much indestructable, UV resistant, can withstand huge temp. changes, you can electrify it if you want, and it comes in different colors. Plus it looks absolutely beautiful! www.equisafe.com|||Although I myself have never used this fencing, i have seen it used by some pretty fancy barns, and it works really well. What they have is some wooden posts and a metal plasticy strip replacing what would usually be wood. It's safe, and won't hurt the horse.

:3|||The safest would probably be post and rail fencing, but that can be expensive. I would go with electric fencing it's safe and cheaper. Hope this helped! Happy fencing =D|||iron although i don't own hourses iron will last the longest and willl be very durible.

How good of an exercise is fencing?

i'm thinking of doing a free summer clinic(i've never fenced before) and was just curious,is fencing a good exercise? does it work out any muscles?|||The quality of fencing as an exercise really depends how much effort you put into it. In the years that I have fenced and coached, I have seen casual fencers devote minimal effort and barely break a sweat and highly competitive individuals work to exhaustion. If you have never fenced before, you will be working out muscles that aren't typically heavily strained in other aerobic sports such as running, soccer, etc; although already being physically fit helps tremendously.

Years ago, in high school, I ran cross-country and played varsity soccer. I was far more exhausted after my first real fencing bout than a typical work-out for those sports.

Fencing works heavily on leg and torso muscle groups and does not require heavy upper body strength. Finesse and dexterity are typically more important.

Hope this helps.|||Yeah, you'll get tired, and it's a pretty good workout if you are doing it right.|||Fencing is an anaerobic activity. It's a bit like football or boxing. The activity is strenuous for periods, with breaks in between. It burns quite a few calories: the last tournament I participated in, I wore my heart monitor and it recorded 2100 calories in 3 hours. The legs are the primary working group - quads/calfs/glutes. It is the mental aspect of fencing that often takes hold of individuals and involves them more than they were originally expecting - providing a form of exercise that is never boring - hence more likely to be undertaken.

How should I approach my college professor about missing fencing class because of an injury?

I recently injured my hamstring and rest is vital to recovery. Unfortunately this means that I won't be able to participate in my fencing class next week. Should I e-mail him and tell him that I just won't be there at all or should I show up and just watch everyone else fence? Thanks for your advice!|||If you attend the class, you will learn all that the class has to offer with the exception of physical participation only, you will be giving a very positive impression by doing everything within your limitations to give full participation to the class in consideration of your injury, and you will probably receive full credit for attendance and participation. You can make up the physical part after your recuperation.

If you don't attend the class, you will miss everything else of value to be learned, and leave no positive impressions. You may also be marked as "absent".

If you care about the class, why wouldn't you attend, watch, and learn?

Fencing..?

My parents are finally going to let me get a horse but first we have to put a fence up. I was wondering what the best kind of fence would be for 2 horses? I don't want it to be to expensive since I want to be able to help my parents out with it.|||I like PVC fencing best. It's extremely low maintenance, and while it will cost a lot initially, you won't have to be maintaining it all the time like you would with a wooden fence. That will save you money and time in the long run.

Some folks in my area use just a few strands of electric tape as their fencing, but I don't think I could ever do that myself. My choice would be PVC fencing with a strand of electric tape at the top.

Ramm is a good PVC fence brand - here is a link so you can get an idea. Keep in mind that you don't need to get a name brand fence like this, though - there are lower cost types out there.

http://www.rammfence.com/fence/categorie鈥?/a>|||woodedfencing|||it really depends on how many acres they will be on.up to two acres i would use wood fencing.three to five acres i would use hot tape fencing and six and above i would use barb wire fencing for money savings.but check in your area to see what fencing costs,wood fencing is sometimes cheaper in some areas and sometimes wire is cheaper so it depends on where you live.|||electric fending is fine but you probably want to use something nice and substantial round the outside maybe put electric strand on the inside or to divide up the park. use pos and rail if u can but its expensive and takes alot of upkeep. post and wire would be ok if u like. just avoid sheep wire or barbed wire!!!!!!|||For 4 acres they have at Tractor supply this stuff its called barbless wire. Its thick like barb wire but without the barbs if you are against barbed wire. Personally one of my 3 acre pastures is barbed wire but has a strand of shock wire at the top and it is about and inch closer in the pasture than the barbed wire and I also did the same thing on the bottom that way they can't get to the barbed wire. Personally I dont like hot tape. Alot of things can go wrong. I like just regular aluminum wire ran on a shock box. get metal t posts put them in the ground and run wire about 4-5 strands depending on how tall you want it. Horses can hear the shock in the wire and wont go near it.|||depends on how many acres and what type horses [how hot,how young] and whats on the other side of fence....a small area use pressure treated posts, wire fence and a strand of barb wire or elect tape on top...i have 20 acres and use 3 strands barb..where the pasture meats the woods...horses dont try to go there because theres no other horses to visit and no food there..along common pastures i use pressure posts and 3 boards [rough cut 2 by 6 posts abt 9 ft apart and 10 ft boards... if you have lots of cash...best looking and safest is vinyl covered wood or pure vinyl|||wood fence|||well, my parents are also going to let me bring my horse on to our property, and we are doing electric. eventually, we might upgrade, but electric is like the cheapest|||At my barn we have woodent posts with plastic coated thick wires* and in our ring we have pvc fencing*. How do i get a T-Post used for fencing out of the ground>?

I have several T-Posts that have shifted to a wrong angle...i am looking for a tool to help me get the T-Posts out without digging up the ground so i can put them back in in the correct angle to fix the fencing around the land...|||You can also use a long lever to ease them out. Clamp a block of wood firmly to the T-pots about 1ft. off the ground; position another block or blocks about 6" away from the post to act as a fulcrum; then placing you lever tip under the wood block clamped to the post and resting on the fulcrum pile, push down on the end. Post should ease out of the ground - no problem. If you are straining, perhaps your lever isn't long enough, and you may need extra block to build up the fulcrum level. Sounds complicated , but very easy in practise. Best of luck.|||Use a jack to get the t-post out of the ground. Wrap a heavy duty chain around the jack and the knobs on the sides of the t-post, binding the chain as you jack and it will pull the post right out of the ground.|||we use a car jack around our place. Wrap some heavy duty wire around the post, using the nubs to keep the wire in place, and the other end of the wire around the head of the jack and start pumping.|||Use a old cat bumper jack if you can not pull them by hand. A farmer with 1200ft of fencing wishes to enclose a rectangular area and then divide it into three pens with f?

A farmer with 1200ft of fencing wishes to enclose a rectangular area and then divide it into three pens with fencing parallel to one side of the rectangle. Determine the dimensions that will yield the largest possible total area.

think of it as a rectangle with three equal parts in it.|||the total fencing: 2a+3b=1200.

Let x=b -%26gt;a = (1200-3x)/2

let f(x) is the area

f(x) = a*b (%26lt;- area of a rectangle)

f(x) = x * [ (1200-3x)/2]

find df(x)/dx = 600-3x. Set this equal 0. Find x

Since x = b, you can find a interm of b.

Dimensions are 200,and 300.|||Let x be the length of each pens be x, y be the length .

Perimeter =4x+y

4x+y=1,200

y=1,200-4x

Area = xy = x(1200-4x)=1,200x-4x^2

Area = 1200x - 4x^2

Differentiate with respect to x and set it equal to 0

dA/dx =1200-8x=0

8x=1200

x=150

y=1200-4(150)= 600

The dimension with largest area is 150 and 600 (parallel to one side)

d^2A/dx^2 =-8x = -8(150) %26lt; 0

This verifies that the area has been maximized.|||Let e = length of area, w = width of area, A = area of rectangle, f = total amount of fencing.

f = 2e+4w = 1200

e + 2w = 600

e = 600 - 2w

A = e*w = (600 - 2w)*w = 600w - 2w^2

Take the derivative of A.

A' = 600 - 4w

Set A' equal to 0 and solve for w.

600 - 4w = 0

600 = 4w

w = 150

A' is positive for w%26lt;150 and negative for w%26gt;150, so the maximum of A occurs at w = 150.

e = 600 - 2w = 600 - 2*150 = 300

The dimensions of the rectangle are 150 ft by 300 ft.|||Since you want to know the maximum TOTAL area, forget about the sub-dividing part (unless there is something missing from the problem statement). How do I find the dimensions of the fencing area?

A farmer wishes to put a fence around a rectangular field and then divide the field into five rectangular plots by placing four fences parallel to one of the sides. If the farmer can afford only 3000 yards of fencing, what dimensions will give the maximum rectangular area?|||ur two equations are-

6w + 2l = 3000 --%26gt; l=1500-3w

max = w x l

max= w(1500-3w)

=-3w^2 + 1500w

=-3(w^2 - 500w)

=-3(w^2 - 500w + 62500 - 62500)

=-3(w^2 -500w +62500) + 187,500

=-3(w - 250) ^2 +187,500

therefore, ur maximum occurs when w=250, and is equal to187,500

Needless to say we didn't pursue it, but I have several friends who use this and it works well with their dogs. It requires a lot of maintenance and diligence on the part of the owner though. If your electricity goes out, it doesn't work, if the batteries die in the collar it doesn't work, you have to be careful not to accidentally dig up the wire (if you plant a tree, garden, etc.). And from what I was told some dogs absolutely freak out when they get zapped which can be harmful to the dog (have you seen the collar they must wear? - scary!!). Good luck with whatever you choose.|||They do work great with proper training of the dogs. I have a friend who has a big black lab, he used to escape conventional fences all the time...he was Houndini. He moved to a new home and installed the wireless fence and his dogs have yet to escape, even when he let the battery run down...lol. Just a precaution, you will keep your dogs in...but you won't keep the wildlife out, so if you have coyote or other predators in the area I would not leave your dog vulnerable and unattended, restricted by the wireless fence. I also recommend that you try the actual 'zap' level of the collar on yourself (I'm not kidding...I know this sounds crazy) if you are going to use it on an animal I think it behooves you to know exactly what the zap feels like so you have a complete understanding of how it works.|||It is much cheaper than a traditional fence. As far as how effective it is, that depends on how well you train the dog once it is installed. There is a training routine you go through after the fence is put in. Have them tell you all of the details about that before yo make a decision. I would no more want to teach my dog to stay in the yard by shocking him than I would want to teach him to sit, stay, etc. by shocking him. Some dogs, no matter how much you work with them, will take the shock and run through. Chances are that they will not take it again to get back in the yard. Also invisible fence doesn't protect your dogs from something else getting to them. I had a friend who's dog was almost killed by a pit bull because the pit bull could get in the yard but their dog wouldn't run out of the yard to get away. Personally I would never use it. It is all about the owners convenience, not the dogs'.|||Works great unless it is a HIGH STRUNG DOG like a border collie

a dog thats gotta get to what it sees, then ours takes the shock to go out but wont take the shock to come back, another bad point is it keeps YOUR dog in, it does NOT KEEP OTHER DOGS OUT|||My uncle's Shih-Zu runs through it about once a week.|||sometimes (usually) the dog relizes if it goes really fast it only hurts for a secound then it stops and the dog is free thus no they don't work|||I wouldn't trust my dogs' safety to one of those. Many dogs figure out that they just have to take the shock and they're free. Other problems can arise when the battery in the collar goes flat. Also, it does not protect your dog from other animals or people coming on to your property.

Get a real fence.|||This type of fencing only works on certain breeds. Dogs like greyhounds, whippets, huskies run too fast and are out of range before the fence activates. The packaging should tell you what breeds they recommend using it for, and which breeds are not suited to it.|||It really depends. If the dog is not dense, have thick fur, and overall do what it wants any way, they work fine. If your dog is (mine was) denser than a box of rocks and hard headed to boot they will just walk across the line and look at you. Be forwarned even if it doesn't look like it shocks your dog the collars hold a lot of power, not enough to hurt, but enough. :)
