My school is now offering fencing as a club for anyone interested grades 6-12 (im in 10). Now that i'm joining, what should i know about? Any tips i should know? And they're offering the suits for $50 a month. Should i pay the 50 or just buy my own suit?|||Rent the suit for the first month to be sure you like it. Check around your area for a large sporting goods store (many don't carry fencing gear, but some do) and check the price for gear. In the long run, it may be cheaper to buy your own.
Also contact your local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism. They're a living history group that studies life in pre-17th century Europe, including fencing and sword and shield combat. If your local SCA chapter has a "Rapier Marshall" or "Fencing Marshall", they can probably recommend where to find a good deal on gear.
